World Congress of Coffee Scientists in Costa Rica

The 24th edition of the biennial conference of the Association for Science and Information on Coffee, ASIC 2012, will be held in Costa Rica, from 11 to 16 November 2012.

It is the first time that the gathering of the International Conference on Coffee Science (ASIC) takes place in a Central American country. The remarkable efforts made by Costa Rica to maintain very high standards of production, have caused great anticipation and interest in the scientific community coffee.

Coffee scientists have to face several important challenges, including accelerated climate change. ASIC 2012 will be the platform to inform and discuss the proposed solutions aimed at preserving the quality and quantity of different origins.

Other themes of interest, such as the relationship between coffee consumption and human health, will be on the agenda at the Conference.

The Coffee Institute of Costa Rica (Icafe), together with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), is organizing the reception of the 300 international experts attending the event.

Icafé Presses Assembly for Approval of ICO Agreement

The 2007 International Coffee Agreement regulates the relationship between ICO member countries.

The Costa Rican Coffe Insitute, known in Spanish as Icafé, requested the Legislative Assembly to approve as soon as possible the International Coffee Agreement 2007, from the International Coffee Organization. September 2009 is the deadline for Costa Rican approval of the document.
