Wind Expo Panamá 2009 Now Open

Wind Expo 2009 is being held since yesterday and up to September 4th, gathering wind energy companies.

Topics will include regulation and the current state of wind energy in Latin America.

Energy Secretary Juan Manuel Urriola, who was present at the event, told that "...modifications to Law 6, which regulates the energy sector in Panama, include more incentives for wind power".

Costa Rica Hosts Expo Industria 2011

The event, organized by the Chamber of Industry, will take place on 7, 8 and 9 September in the Herradura Hotel Conference Center.

Expo Industria is Costa Rica's biggest industry event. In this, the fifth time it is being held, the country's most important industries and sectors will be exhibiting, all under one roof.

Panama Invites Bid for Wind Power

The country’s state power company, Etesa, is to purchase 150 megawatts of wind power generated by wind farms now under construction.

The bid is scheduled for the end of the year, while the wind farms are due to begin generating electricity in 2013.

The Panamanian Public Services Authority (ASEP), Etesa and the National Energy Council will work on a bill to regulate wind power.

In other cases, the government has denied the necessary operation permits due to breach of requisites.
Actions by environmentalists, who want to prevent the use of the Santa Fe National Park for a wind farm, claiming "ecological fragility" of the area have also influenced in the delay.

With the goal of "Integrating Wind Energy into the Latin American energy matrix," the Latin American Association of Wind Energy (LAWEA) is organizing Panama Wind Expo 2009.
