Tourism Reports $92 Million in Investments

Of the $91 million invested in tourism projects in El Salvador during 2018, 87% went to finance private works and 13% to public infrastructure.

The Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) reported that among the projects with private investment are works located in the Ruta de las Flores with an approximate investment of $6.27 million, in El Tunco beach with $3.8 million, in Boquerón $1.36 million and in the Ruta Fresca $1.8 million.

Regarding public investments, the vice minister of Tourism, Roberto Viera, said that "... MITUR figures indicate that public investment in tourism was $12.6 million. One of the most outstanding projects is Plaza Marinera, which is currently being built with a $5.5 million investment."

The Minister of Tourism, José Napoleón Duarte Durán, explained to Laprensagrafica.com that the amount spent on investments in tourism projects during 2018 is a "... preliminary data, because it is the first time we remove it. For me this is an excellent indicator because the tourism sector is developing a very positive scheme."

These include the creation of new touristic routes, such as the one known as “Monseñor Romero” or “El Boquerón”.

José Napoleón Duarte, Tourism Minister, added they plan to strengthen the circuit known as “Sol y Playa” (Beach and Sun), at La Libertad Port and El Tunco Beach.
