Transnationals aim to hire 8,000 for Costa Rican services sector

Transnational services companies are looking to hire 8,000 more employees this year in Costa Rica, said Gabriela Llobet, head of the Costa Rican Coalition for Development Initiatives.

The labor participation rate reached 61.5% of the working age population in the first quarter, 1.8% less than in the same period in 2012.

According to an employment survey by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC by its initials in Spanish), the labor participation rate reached 61.5% of the working age population during the first quarter of this year, a figure that has dropped by 1.8% compared with the same period in 2012.

The Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency (CINDE), indicated that 29 new foreign investment projects that arrived in the country in the high technology services sector, medical devices and advanced manufacturing, in conjunction with the companies already installed, generated 5,730 new jobs and US $304.6 million during 2009.

Telecommunications Market Opening Will Dynamize Employment

Telecomm employment will double as the sector's monopoly ends in Costa Rica, expanding the market.

Five years from now, telecommunication jobs in Costa Rica will increase to 30.000 as new players enter the market, up from the 15.000 now offered by the state's company, known as ICE. This figures are estimations by the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Telecommunications (Minaet).

Costa Rica: Call Centers Open 600 Positions

The companies Stream, AEGIS, Amadeus, the ICT Group, and ACE are looking for 600 people with high levels of English and immediate availability.

The call center Stream, which has the most vacancies, will hire 350 people. AEGIS seeks 20 new team members for the service area of customer service.
