Tocumen's Jet Fuel Consumption Increases 39%

The Panamanian airport's current average daily consumption is around 250,000 gallons, 70,000 more than at the beginning of 2009.

23 July was a daily record with 362,000 gallons consumed, 42.8% of the total three-day reserve held by the company Allied Aviation.

"This is a high-yield business: a gallon of fuel costs $2.98 and daily revenue stands at $745,000," comments Prensa.com.

Tocumen Airport to Keep Growing

Plans are afoot for Panama's main airport to become a terminal for transcontinental flights, counting on the arrival of Asian airlines.

Juan Carlos Pino, general manager of Tocumen, SA, said the airport is looking to expand routes and frequencies, and in the future, "we are counting on airlines from Asia" to transform the airport into a transcontinental hub.

The National Assembly approved the resources to continue construction works at the northern section of the air terminal.

Juan Carlos Pino, airport manager, remarked that over $98 million will be invested in the project, increasing the hub’s capacity in 50%.

Panama: Traffic at Tocumen airport increases 20%

The number of aircraft operating at the Tocumen airport between January and September 2008 increased to 53,678, or 20.6% more than in 2007.

The number of passengers that traveled via the airport between January and September 2008 was 3.34 million or 20.3% (564,000 more passengers) than during the same period last year, the Tocumen S.A. company said in its third quarter Airport Statistics Report.
