Variation of regional imports
Between 2015 and 2016, the total volume of plastic and manufactured goods imported to Central America increased by 9%, going from one million 564 thousand tons equivalent to $3.671 million in 2015, to one million 708 thousand tons equivalent to $3.667 million, in 2016.

Imports by country 
In 2016, the main importer of plastic and its manufactures in Central America was Costa Rica with 457 thousand tons, followed by Guatemala with 425 thousand tons, El Salvador with 329 thousand tons, Honduras with 227 thousand tons, Panama with 160 thousand tons and Nicaragua, with 108 thousand tons. 

Origin of regional imports 
In 2016, 34% of the volume imported by Central America came from the US, 9% from China, 8% from Mexico, 7% from Taiwan and 3% from Colombia.

Price of regional imports 
During the months between January 2012 and December 2016, the average price per kilo of imports registered its highest value in May 2014 at $2.76 per kilo, and the lowest was in January 2012, at $1.64 per kilo.

Purchases and Sales of Plastic in Central America

August 2016

In 2015 the countries of the region exported $1000 million worth of plastic and plastic products, led by Costa Rica and El Salvador, with $354 million and $337 million respectively.
