The Jute Coffee Sack Will Enjoy a Long Life

Specialty coffee buyers still prefer the traditional bags for the grain.

Thursday, November 7, 2013

"The jute sack (...) has been reaffirmed as the preference of buyers facing new global trade rules, in addition to the contracts on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE)", reported Elperiodico.com.gt.

The ICE announced a few days that it will allow shipments of the grain in lined containers or plastic supersacks holding up to one ton, in late 2015. The new provision is intended to facilitate large purchases by commodity traders and it has even been said that this will increase the amount available in the inventory.

"The measure by the ICE favors importers who handle large volumes because it means a reduction in costs," says the National Coffee Association (Anacafé).
