The Gerdau Group enters Central America
The Gerdau Group, the largest manufacturer of steel in America, completed a strategic alliance with the Central American Steel Corporation, the biggest steel producer on the Isthmus

With the stock acquisition, Gerdau is committing to invest $180 million in the Central America steel manufacturer which operates a integrated steel plant in Guatemala, four steel sheet plants in Guatemala and Honduras, and has distribution in Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua.
The Hopsa company has signed an alliance with Schuff, the giant steel producer looking to expand in the region.
Avianca CEO Fabio Villegas announced they are negotiating a strategic alliance between both airlines.
The Bekaert Group has bought the majority of shares of ArcelorMittal in Costa Rica and will invest $20 million in a plant for the manufacture of steel cables in Orotina.
The pharmaceutical group Socofar acquired 50% of the Costa Rican operation Cefa Corporation.
