Tender for Electrical Transmission Network for $400 million

The government of Guatemala is inviting companies to take part in an international tender for the construction of 604 kilometers of the electrical transmission network.

As previously announced on July 15, the Ministry of Energy and Mines in Guatemala has convened a formal tender to expand electricity coverage of the country through ".... the installation of 29 new substations, expansion of 22 existing ones and the adaptation of 51 kilometers of line."

"...Bids are due on 12 November, and the auction will take place on the 26th and 28th of that month. The new network will have to be operational as a whole in 2019. "

Prensalibre.com also reports that "...The new tender will be promoted in August and September in Colombia, Mexico and Spain. The five items are:
A: cover communities needing services in Quiche and interconnect with San Marcos.
B: installation in Norocciente, interconnection with Quetzaltenango Quiché, San Marcos and Suchitepéquez.
C: includes the southwestern region Chimaltenango, Quetzaltenango, Quiché and Suchitepéquez.
D: Southeast, the line will join Chiquimula, Escuintla, Santa Rosa and Zacapa.
E: Northeast, eight lines connect Alta Verapaz, Baja Verapaz and Izabal. "

Guatemala: Works on Transmission Network Awarded

The company Fersa S.A. has been awarded a contract for three of the five blocks in the tender to expand the electricity transmission network.

Prensalibre.com reports that "...The total contained in the tender was 400 kilometers, of which three of the five blocks were awarded to Fersa. The first will cover the communities of Quiché and will interconnect with San Marcos."

In Guatemala an award of lots one and three has been made to Fersa and Transportista Eléctrica Centroamericana, respectively, for the works to expand the national grid.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) has awarded four of the five lots which are included in the tender.

An announcement has been made that the conditions for the tender for 574 kilometers of power lines will be released on July 31.

The work comprises of "... 29 new substations, expansion of 25 new lines and more than 12 adaptations, establishing 574 kilometers of electricity transmission, divided into 5 lots covering the national territory."
