The fresh food sector is booming within the general food trade. For the success of its commercialization, besides an attractive presentation for the market and being able to offer a wide variety of products, also a good logistic performance is very important, which is expressed in terms of freshness, availability, and reasonably low logistic costs.

Nowadays there are many trends and challenges in the logistics of fresh products:
- Orders are growing all the time, especially in convenience stores.
- The growing demand has increased the number of suppliers.
- Market requirements and type of presentation are constantly updated, which increases complexity.
- The increase in catering in the market area and the extension of service counters increase the expectations of logistics associated with fresh food.
- The shortage of trained personnel, especially in metropolitan areas, requires making working conditions more attractive, which definitely increases costs.
- The public is increasingly seeking sustainability and environmental awareness. Profit margins, however, remain under a lot of pressure.
- Online sales continue to grow significantly and must offer at least the same quality and variety as traditional retail.
- In addition to the usual traffic problems, there are specific supply restrictions for many locations where fresh produce is sold.
