The telecommunications market in Guatemala will grow at a compound rate of 5% over the next 5 years, reaching $2.800 million in 2014.

Revenues for this market were $1.9 billion in 2009, out of which 62% was generated by the mobile segment, according to a recent study by Pyramid Research. This segment would grow at a 13.7% annual rate over the next 5 years and "though messaging will remain the main source of revenue, connectivity will gain more than 10 percentage points of total revenue fueled by mobile Internet and mobile broadband", states a press release in Reuters.com.

The report also highlights opportunities in broadband internet, because "penetration of households still remains at 4 percent, [so] there is plenty of opportunity for operators to grab additional subscriptions". Broadband income will rise to $81 million in 2014, up from $36 million in 2009.

A study forecasts that Nicaragua’s mobile telephony market will grow up to $655 million in 2015.

In its most recent study, Pyramid Research estimated that mobile penetration in Nicaragua will grow from 53.9% in 2010 to over 80% in 2015.

Pyramid also expects the market to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.5% over the next five years to advance from $478 million for 2010 to $655 million in 2015, well ahead of the 3.7% average expected for Latin America, notes Jose Magana, Senior Analyst at Pyramid Research.

Telecoms in Guatemala Generated $2,400 million in 2011

A study by Pyramid Research says that the telecommunications market in 2011 generated revenues of $2,400 million.

Of the total, 69% ($1,600 million) corresponds to the mobile phone business and the rest is divided between internet, cable television and fixed telephony services.
