Taiwan to Import More Sugar from El Salvador

The Asian country increased duty free sugar import quotas from 60 thousand to 80 thousand metric tons, and granted an additional quota to import a thousand kilos of dry fruit.

From a statement issued by the Embassy of Taiwan in El Salvador:

The Second Administrative Meeting of the Free Trade Agreement between Taiwan and El Salvador was held in Taipei, Taiwan, under the efforts of both countries, closing the round of meetings with much success and achievement for both countries who took a step forward in strengthening bilateral trade.

The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Ministers of Economy of both parties, Dr. Luz Estrella Rodríguez and her Taiwanese counterpart Mei-Hua Wang, highlighting the significant increase in the Salvadoran sugar quota granted by Taiwan, from 60 thousand to 80 thousand MT, 20 thousand more MT that will enter the market with zero tariff.

Sugar: Export Quota to United Kingdom

By signing the Association Agreement with the European country, Central America achieved an export quota of 56 thousand metric tons of sugar free of tariffs.

Sugar: Guatemala to Double Sales to Taiwan

Both countries agreed to increase from 60,000 to 125,000 tons the export quota of Guatemalan sugar that enters the Asian nation free of tariffs.

In the framework of the Second Meeting of the Administrative Commission of the Free Trade Agreement between Guatemala and the Republic of Taiwan, held in Taipei, Taiwan on July 8 and 9, both parties agreed to eliminate tariffs for the entry of certain products, informed the Ministry of Economy of Guatemala.

Fruits: Guatemalan Exports Fall 12%

During the first three months of the year, the country exported $109 million worth of fruit, 12% less than in the same period in 2018, in part because of the closure of one of the most important companies.

Figures from the Banco de Guatemala detail that between the first quarter of 2018 and the same period of 2019, foreign sales of fresh, dried and frozen fruits decreased from $123 million to $109 million.

El Salvador: Sugar Exports Up 19 %

October 2013

During the 2013-14 harvest ending on October 31 490,000 metric tons of sugar were exported while in the previous harvest the amount was 412,000 MT.

According to the Sugar Association of El Salvador , the main destinations of the country's raw sugar are the USA, Chile, Russia, Taiwan and Canada.
