Electric Spectrum Tender Suspended

Authorities have decided to suspend the tender because Trilogy Dominicana, the only bidder in the contest in the Dominican Republic, discovered opposition to the process on the part of Servicios Ampliados de Teléfonos.

Instituto Dominicano de las Telecomunicaciones (Indotel) reported that in order to ensure due process, the tender of the spectrum has been suspended, because the company Servicios Ampliados de Teléfonos S.A. (Satel) argued it " ... is the owner of the right to use radio frequencies in blocks of 1710-1720, 1730-1735, 2110-2120 and 2130-2135 MHZ throughout the national territory."

For his part, the president of the Indotel board of directors, Luis Henry Molina, explained to Eldinero.com.do that " ... the entity 'needs to carefully examine the arguments of both parties so as to act with caution and in compliance with the due administrative process'."

Molina added that " ... 'Our goal is to ensure that this, like any other allocation of the radio spectrum, benefits the Dominican people, who ultimately are the owners of it.'"
