Study and Design of 4th. Bridge Over Panama Canal

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has put out to tender the studies and preliminary design of the 4th bridge over the Canal.

The purpose of the contract is to provide the necessary analysis to determine the best alternative for a new bridge over the canal, on the Pacific coast, and produce a preliminary design, through which the ACP can complete the new bridge at a later stage.

Technical Specifications:

Cable-stayed bridge in concrete, length 350 meters, at least 40 meters above sea level.

The contractor shall have 455 days to complete the contract.

Expected date of submission of bids is 20 January 2012.

The approval meeting will be held on January 6, 2012.

Third Bridge Over Canal to be Tendered in August

With 4 lanes, and measuring 4.6 kilometers long and 75 meters high, the bridge will cost about $280 million and its construction will take 32 months.

The tender for the third bridge, located on the Atlantic side, will take place in August, according to the outgoing administrator of the Panama Canal, Alberto Alemán Zubieta.

Three Groups Submit Bids to Build New Canal Bridge

A company and two consortia have delivered the documentation to participate in the construction of a third bridge over the Panama Canal.

One group consists of Brazil’s Odebrecht and South Korea's Hyundai Joint Venture; another is composed of Spanish firm Acciona Infraestructuras and Mexico’s Tradeco. The third bidder is France's Vinci Construction Grands Projets, according to the Panama Canal Authority (ACP).

The Panama Canal Authority has taken another step towards building a new bridge over the Atlantic after complying with the public consultation of the Environmental Impact Study, category III.
