Solar Energy in Panama

Up to January 13 final licenses have been issued for installing solar plants with a combined capacity of 336 MW and 54 temporary licenses for the generation of 800 MW.

With the 67 licenses issued so far by the National Authority for Public Services it is expected that 1136 MW of solar power will be generated. For the final licenses, some projects are already under construction and others are scheduled to start energy production in the coming months. "

Prensa.com reports that "... Among the companies that already have a license to build photovoltaic power plants there are projects for 2, 8, 10, 50 and up to 120 megawatts of capacity. They are located in Chiriqui, Cocle, Herrera, Los Santos, Veraguas and Panama. Some of those which took part in tenders are well advanced in the construction process ... " and the studies required.

"... Four of the 31 bidders that submitted bids in the tender held by Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica, S.A., on November 25, 2014, were awarded a contract for the supply of solar power generation plants between January 1, 2017 and December 31 2036. Contracts for 66 megawatts were awarded to companies that offered the lowest price.
