Of the eleven openings, eight are located in the greater metropolitan area and the rest are in the province of Guanacaste.
With an investment of $15 million, the opening of the 128 room Courtyard by Marriott is planned for next month in Alajuela.
According to records of the Costa Rica Tourist Board (ICT) the City Express in Cariari, Heredia, will open at around the same date.
During 2013 four new hotels targeting executive tourism will come into operation.
"One of them is the Park Inn, in the Don Bosco neighbourhood, developed by Hogares de Costa Rica. Its construction will cost about $16 million and it is expected that operations will start next January. The other one is Hyatt Place, located in the commercial complex Momentum Pinares in Curridabat, which will be developed by Sinergo Development Group", reports Elfinancierocr.com
The current occupancy rate of 57% can be explained by the increased supply of rooms and the relative decline of San Jose as a business destination.
The increased supply of hotel rooms in the capital is one of the reasons for the low level of occupancy, which as of January stood at 57%. This occurs mainly in hotels that attract business travelers or tourists who spend up to two nights prior to departure.
The hotel chain will invest $11 million in opening a 125 room hotel within the Altia Business Park in San Pedro Sula.
The project, will be developed by Grupo Karim's and its opening is scheduled for the last quarter of 2015. "The property is located in the northern part of San Pedro Sula, within the Altia Business Park which undoubtedly is the first smart city in Honduras," reported Latribuna.hn .
Construction has started of a 100-room Marriott Courtyard and work will soon begin on a Hyatt Place which will have 120 rooms.
The information was released by Epaminondas Marinakys, president of the Chamber of Tourism of Honduras (CANATURH), who explained that Marriott is building its project in the area of Rio de Piedras in San Pedro Sula.
