Salvadoran Poultry industry contracts 27% in 2008

The increase in the cost of raw materials was one of the reasons given by the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Mario Salaverria.

Saturday, January 5, 2008 reports: "the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Mario Salaverria, pointed out that, at the close of the year, growth in various agricultural sectors was due to good production in grains and fruits and vegetables; however, this abundance does not apply to the poultry industry.

Our goal is to grow more, but some sectors experienced problems due to raw materials such as soy, which is the main product for the poultry sector which contracted," said Salaverria.

The Ministry of Agriculture has declared an alert over animal health and banned the import of eggs and poultry from several US states due to avian influenza detected there.

Nicaraguan poultry farmers estimate that 2015 will close with a total production of 290 million pounds of meat and 600 million eggs.

Poultry Industry figures show that in the last 15 years national production increased from 104 million pounds of chicken meat in 2000 to 277 million in 2014.

Panama: More Consumption of Poultry Products

The union of poultry farmers reported an increase of 8% in the first ten months of the year compared to the same period in 2015.

The National Association of Poultry Farmers of Panama (ANAVIP) recorded an increase in consumption of poultry meat in the country, of up to 87 pounds per person at the end of 2015. The ANAVIP figures also show increased egg consumption, which at the end of 2015 stood at 154 per person, 17 units more than in the previous year.
