Support for the sector in the form of strategic actions by the Crafts Committee at Agexport is bearing fruits with sustained increases in productivity and exports, which in 2011 reached $53 million.

Also factoring in the success is the involvement of these artisans in international fairs, and their skills in design and management.

The chairman of the Crafts Committee at Agexport, Hugo Cabrera, said: "We had a big job in strengthening the productive and commercial capacity of different groups of artisans in the provinces and municipalities of Guatemala, to improve their skills and knowledge in business management and productive capacity. On the other hand, in order to design and development new products, we hired national and international designers such as Marjolein Keijsper from Holland."

An article Prensalibre.com, states that in the Central American Crafts Fair ‘New World Craft’, which annually takes place in Guatemala, the participating artisans managed to do business of more than $700 thousand.
