Russian businessmen interested in Nicaraguan cacao

Russian businessmen will arrive in Nicaragua on February 12 to explore the possibility of investing in a cacao processing plant.

Álvaro Baltodano, executive director of the Corporation of Free Zones said to ACAN-EFE y reports: "This is a project, however they have all intentions of going through with it: to establish a cacao processing plant and to export it to Russia to make chocolate.

He added that the idea is that the Russian factory, which he got to know during an official visit to Moscow, will plant up to 101,250 hectares of cacao in Nicaragua."

The Brazilian group Schmidt Irmãos has opened a factory in Nicaragua specializing in the manufacture of footwear.

The plant, with capacity to produce 4.5 million pairs of ladies shoes a year, is located in the Saratoga Free Zone Industrial Park, in the municipality of Mateare, 14.5 kilometers northwest of Managua.
