Riu Hotel Chain Invests $150 million

Spain-based Rui Hotels & Resorts will open in November a 701 room hotel in Playa Matapalo, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Rui's first hotel in the country uses 5% of a 380 acres terrain, the same lot where a second hotel will be built in the medium term, this one under the Palace brand.

"The chain handles different 5 star levels", told Roberto Echeverría, the company's lawyer in Costa Rica, to Nacion.com. "For example, the Riu (being built), is a five star hotel, but focused on the family with teenagers market. Its concept is more party like. The Palace is more sophisticated, geared towards adults".

Another Investment by Riu Hotels in Panama

With an investment of $67 million the Spanish chain Riu Hotels & Resorts will build a beach resort in the district of Rio Hato, Cocle Province.

The 520 room hotel under the name Riu Playa Blanca, will be the second in Panama owned by the chain, after having opened the Rui Plaza in 2010 which has 645 rooms in the capital.

With an investment of $60 million, the opening of the 6-star, luxury hotel with 300 rooms is planned for 2012.

The condo-hotel project developed by RG Inmobiliaria will feature a casino, a heliport, and a luxury spa, among others. It is already in the pre-sale stage.

According to Prensa.com, Maruquel Gálvez, Representative of RG Realty, said: "We did an architectural and engineering redesign, because when the project was launched in November 2008, we had plans for 156 rooms and it was changed at that time to 300 rooms. The redesign took over six months."

$40 million for luxury hotel in Panama

The Nations Hotel, designed by Musa Asvat, will be 26 floors high and will be located between Street 51 and Street 50.

It will be marketed as a condo-hotel with prices starting at 139,000 dollars. Construction is slated to start in November or December and the Hotel should open its doors in 2001.
