An article in Prensa.com reports that, "while these new requests compete to explore and then extract the highly sought-after material, MICI has already granted a concession to Silver Global S.A. to transport Cañazas gold. MICI Viceminister, Ricardo Quijano, comments that the concession, granted in July, represents a license to transport the mineral that in the past was extracted by the mining company Minas Santa Rosa, which closed down in 1999".
On December 2009, the Commerce Ministry (Mici) received six new applications for exploring gold.
Mici had received an additional four between June and November 2009.
“Four companies filed these 10 requests for authorization: Competrol Panamá S.A., Royal Mineral Exploration Corp., Panamerican Mines Corp. y Santa Rosa Mining Corp. Combined, they intend to explore 81.222 hectares”, reported Prensa.com.
