Rise in Motorcycle Sales in Costa Rica

The high cost of fuel could be the main factor behind the increase in motorcycle sales, which this year will exceed 2013 figures by 20%.

Monday, August 18, 2014

The Association of Importers of Vehicles and Equipment (Aivema) expects that motorcycle sales this year will increase by up to 20% more than in 2013, due to the rebound that has been seen in demand in recent months.

Gilbert Porras, of Aivema, told Crhoy.com that "...The rise in the price of gasoline and the affordability in prices compared to any vehicle is making it much more attractive for people to choose motorbikes. "

According to Porras, "... usually the trend is that cars sales are greater than motorcycle sales, but what is happening is that the sales are becoming very 'equal.'"

'Its been very even (motorcycles and car sales) in recent months (...) I estimate that this year the number of motorcycles will be higher.' In 2013 about 36 thousand units of motorcycles were sold."
