Sunwing Airlines, which is part of the largest tour operator in the world, has expressed interest in direct flights from Canada.

After the government announced the construction of an international airport on the Rio Hato runway in the central provinces, the company Sunwing, a major tour operator from Canada showed interest in increasing its service of charter flights to Panama and investing in other beach hotels in the Panamanian Pacific.
Sunwing is part of the TUI company , the largest tour operator in the world, which currently operates the Royalton Resort Playa Blanca, near the future international airport in Rio Hato in the province of Cocle.
In a letter sent to President Ricardo Martinelli, CEO and president of Sunwing Travel Group, Stephen Hunter, said he was "thrilled" to learn of the new Government's proposal to build a new airport in Rio Hato.
Mr. Hunter said in his letter to the president that "Sunwing is committed to increasing its services in Panama, through the development of this new airport with the arrival of more Sunwing charter flights."
The Government decided to build the international airport in Rio Hato, because in the area is the largest collection of hotels within the country, specializing in beach products which is what these operators are looking for.
This project will distribute wealth in the sector, with the construction of more hotel projects which will generate direct and indirect jobs and provide a further boost for tourism in the central provinces.

The Canadian airline Sunwing Airlines has increased from one to four the number of flights going from Canada to Scarlett Martinez airport in Rio Hato, Cocle province.
The airline has offered a weekly flight to Rio Hato since April 2014, but due to "... demand for Canadian tourists ... added three flights".
Canadian carrier Sunwing Airlines will operate two weekly flights on Mondays in the Toronto-Roatán-Toronto route.
Peter Fleming, commercialization manager at "Aeropuertos de Honduras", explained that Sunwing's operation highlights the confidence in the growth of tourism in the region.
Canadian airlines Transat and SunWing will operate 115 flights from Canada to Panama.
The Panama's Tourism Authority (ATP) expressed in a communique that they expect the arrival of 25.000 Canadians. Most flights will happen between December and April.
"Meanwhile, Panamanian airline Copa Airlines has not yet received approval from the Airport of Toronto to fly to the Canadian city", reported Prensa.com.
