The restaurant sector has been one of the hardest hit by the covid-19 outbreak, as in most countries the authorities have prohibited these establishments from serving their customers in the table area and only allow them to sell take-out.

In order to restart the service in the eating area, companies will be forced to invest in adapting their infrastructure to meet the new health and safety protocols that will be required by the authorities and consumers in this new business reality.

Elpais.com reports that in its establishments in the U.S. the McDonald's fast food restaurant chain will eliminate "... drink dispensers or assign an employee to continuously supervise them, bathrooms will be cleaned every half hour and digital kiosks, after each order. The recommended distance will be imposed, among other measures."

The publication adds that "... Establishments should also implement changes prior to opening doors, such as installing stand-up door openers on bathroom doors so that customers do not use their hands, enabling automatic towel dispensers, and sensory sinks to prevent contact. In addition, they should have signs on the floor to indicate where the customer should be located ...".

Another innovation that the company plans to implement is to deliver orders directly to the consumer's table, in a double-sealed bag on a tray, in addition to placing a sign on the tables that have already been disinfected, so that customers know where they can be seated.
