Dominican Republic: Vehicle Fleet Increases 6%

In 2018, the number of units circulating at the national level reached 4.35 million, a figure 6% higher than that reported in 2017, mainly because of the increase in the registration of motorcycles and automobiles.

Between 2017 and 2018, the total park increased by 6.2%, from 4.09 million to 4.35 million units. In the last four years, the park has grown steadily, with an average growth rate of 6.3% between 2014 and 2018.

Last year, the type of vehicles with the highest percentage increase compared to the units registered in 2016 were jeeps, with 7.3%, followed by motorcycles, with 7.1%, automobiles, with 5.1%, buses, with 4.8%, heavy machines, with 3.4%, others, with 3.5%, trucks and vans, with 3%, and tipping vehicles, with 2.2%.

Out of the total number of vehicles circulating in the country, 65% correspond to Japanese brands, 11% to US brands, 11% to South Korean brands and 7% to European brands.

Of the total number of vehicles circulating in the country in December 2016, 35% were automobiles, 31% motorcycles, 22% light-duty vehicles and 7% heavy load vehicles.
