"Works to be done:
-Improving the pavement structure and dimensions of the taxiways by reconstructing the pavement structure in compliance with ICAO standards.
-Removing obstacles present during aeronautical operations by removing terrain mounds, light posts and other elements to improve airport safety.
-Reconstructing the passenger terminal in compliance with Firefighters' regulations regarding fire-fighting systems and the provision of spaces according to Law 7600, the Law on Equal Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities, while improving airport services.
-Building a wastewater treatment plant will reduce the impact on surface and underground drains near the Torres River.
-Constructing a parking lot for vehicles with at least 170 spaces to reduce the entry of vehicles on taxiways in order to improve security at the airport."
Improvements to Liberia's international airport in Guanacaste, with a $95 million investment, is the most important project the Costa Rican government plans to carry out in the next four years.
The Ministry of Public Works (Mopt) informed that the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport will receive a $95 million investment for the 2020-2024 period, in work to improve the taxiway, the reconstruction of the entire runway of almost 3 km in length, the reconstruction of the electrical system and expansions, which will involve more expropriations. This is one of the main investments, of the $160 million invested, in execution or to be allocated to local airports and aerodromes.
According to the Guatemalan airline guild, it is necessary to modernize the infrastructure of La Aurora International Airport by expanding the southern taxiway, but in the study of the project it is proposed to begin with work on the northern runway.
The consulting firm Deloitte Tetra Tech was hired to prepare feasibility studies, with the aim of establishing the plan to modernize the Guatemalan air terminal.
Tocumen is preparing a plan to tender several expansion works and equipment at the airfields of Panama Pacific, David, Colon and Rio Hato.
One of the regional airports where Tocumen plans to invest in order to improve its functionality is Panama Pacific, which is projected to double capacity of the terminal in order to handle five flights simultaneously instead of two, increasing the number of airline counters from 3 to 7 and improving the waiting area for departing passengers and the migration area.
Construction will take place at Panama’s main airport, and consists of a South terminal measuring 75 thousand square meters with 20 boarding gates, a third runway and related infrastructure.

The project entitled ‘Expansion Program of Tocumen International Airport’ is for the studies, design and construction of: a new South Terminal at Tocumen International Airport (Phase 1) with a minimum area of 75,000 m², twenty (20) new boarding gates, mobile boarding bridges, electrical substation and connection to the existing substation of Cerro Viento, back up generators, baggage handling system, Special systems (including CCTV, access control, FIDS, Security and other specified in the Annexes to the tender conditions), implementation and installation of all operating systems required to operate the new airport terminal (air conditioning, water, sewage, drainage, electrical, voice and data, telephony, internet access and others specified in the tender conditions), mobility equipment (escalators, elevators and moving walkways), expansion of the fire extinguishing system (SEI), the third take off and landing runwa, aircraft parking apron, the aircraft taxiway and interconnections with existing terminals, a New Control Tower, works on Tocumen River, Boulevard vehicular access from the South Corridor, viaduct interconnections with the Southern Corridor, parking lots, required connections to existing terminal as well as the incorporation of the distribution of aviation fuel for the 20 new aircraft positions, expansion of taxiways and aircraft parking apron of the existing terminal (see drawings attached in Annex XV), expansion of water reservoirs system, establishment of RESAs, matching stripes and maintenance and construction of storm water channels, restructuring, repair and maintenance of airport pavement structure.
