Regional fuel prices above $4.40 per gallon

The Salvadoran Petroleum Industry Association and the Ministry of the Economy published a comparative analysis of the region on August 15.

For unregulated markets, the price per gallon on that date was: El Salvador, $4.44 for regular gasoline; Nicaragua, $4.72; and Guatemala, $4.71.
In cases where there are Government subsidies or where gas station markup the price, the prices were as follows: Honduras, $4.33; while in Costa Rica it was at $5.21.

A report has been released detailing the average consumer prices for Gasoline and Diesel in Central America, effective in the week 12 to May 18, 2013, based on official prices and monitoring or surveys carried out by the various DGs of Hydrocarbons or equivalent in the capital of each Central American country.

Costa Rica remains the country with the highest prices of automotive fuels in the region.

In Central America, El Salvador is positioned top of the list for having the lowest prices on regular gasoline, and second for the lowest priced special gasoline and diesel.

Fuel Prices Rise in El Salvador

November 2009

After this week's increases, fuel prices will reach their highest levels of 2009.

Special and regular gas will increase $0.09, whilst diesel $0.08.

Julio Villagran, executive director at ASDPP, the Salvadoran Association of Petrol Distributors, told Laprensagrafica.com that "... this increase will further deteriorate Salvadorans purchasing power. This is evidenced by gas station sales, which dropped 10% since June".
