Record Budget in Panama

The National Assembly has approved a state budget for the year 2012, at $14,451 million, the highest in the country's history.

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

The beneficiaries are ministries of the Presidency with $881 million and the Public Works with $723.4 million. The amounts allocated to the Ministry of Health are $538 million and $218 million for Education.

The budget, approved in third debate, drew criticism from the opposition who believe that this is a preview of the 2014 election campaign.

"The representative from the Panameñista party, Jose I. Blandon, expressed fears that the government is using the budget to benefit politically, and that does not comply with the Fiscal Responsibility Law which sets a ceiling on public spending", writes Gustavo Aparicio in Prensa.com
