Port Projects Planned in Central America

In the first nine months of 2018, eight environmental impact studies were presented to perform dredging works and new constructions in different port terminals in the region, with a $75 million estimated investment.

The interactive platform "Construction in Central America", compiled by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData, includes an up to date list of public and private construction projects for which environmental impact studies (EIA) were submitted to the respective institutions of each country.

Costa Rica is the country in the region with the largest investment, with approximately $49 million in port projects, corresponding to three environmental impact studies submitted to Setena between January and September 2018.

It is followed by Panama, where four EIAs were presented, which together represent a total investment of about $24 million. Among the studies presented are dredging works, improvement of infrastructure for discharging containers and rehabilitation of facilities.

In Guatemala, a study was presented to implement a project consisting of the adaptation of an area that will be used for container storage. According to the platform, about $2 million is expected to be invested.

CentralAmericaData has information on the construction projects to be developed in Central America, with details such as estimated investment, times and phases of the project, supplies and equipment that will be required during and after construction, water treatment, and parking structure, among other things.
