Proposal for Act to Streamline Building Permits

A proposal by the Salvadoran Chamber of the Construction Industry aims to lower from two years to six months the time taken to obtain the necessary construction permits.

According to Carlos José Guerrero, president of the Salvadoran Chamber of the Construction Industry (Casalco) preparations have been made for the Act to Streamline Procedures for Building Permits which will be sent to Congress in the next few days.

"The instrument will promote transparency, ethics and strengthening legal certainty demanded by investors to develop their works with better planning and in less time," he said.

"Casalco worked with the Technical Secretariat of the Presidency in the development of this draft bill, which seeks to determine the response times and procedures for the necessary infrastructure permits that are of importance to the country. We understand that in the next few days the proposal will be in the Legislature," he added.

The official hoped that the bill will have the significance that "merit" and approved by the deputies. "With the implementation of this law the construction industry could generate about seven thousand new direct jobs per year," he added.
