Projected Increase in Export of Car Wiring Systems

As of July 2012, Honduras received $223 million in foreign exchange from exports of vehicle wiring systems, and expects to close the year at $450 million.

The director of the Honduran Maquila Association, Guillermo Matamoros, said the industry is stronger, both in terms of currency generated and in the number of jobs created, now in excess of 12,000.

"Due to the economic crisis of 2009 vehicle sales in the U.S. had fallen and therefore the companies that contracted car wiring systems also stopped importing from countries, and Honduras suffered the consequences, but now the situation has changed."

"... its certain that we will reach $450 million in revenue in the current year ... Compared with 2011 this is growth of $50 million because last year the amount was $400 million."
