For the Third Time El Salvador Creates Tender for Diego de Holguín

The new regulations for the tender will be issued by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE), who will also fund and supervise the initiative.

"There have been some changes in the conditions, relaxing the requirements. This time, the bank will allow the work to be completed using asphalt, a material with which the companies have used consistently and have experience with.

After receiving the conditions, companies have a period of 30 days in which to submit their offer", reported Laprensagrafica.com.

After two failed tender processes, El Salvador's Minsitry for Public Works (MOP in Spanish) has received four bids to construct the new highway.

The new highway will connect the country's capital San Salvador with Santa Tecla 9.9 kilometers (6.5 miles) away.

According to a MOP press release, of ten companies that were invited to tender, four have expressed an interest in building the second stretch of the Bulevar Diego de Holguín road, which will see the project completed.

15 companies are interested in building and 12 in supervising, those are the number of companies which have acquired bidding terms and participated on field visits.

The MOP through its Institutional Procurement and Contracting Unit (UACI), and under the rules and policies of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) published on the 24th of September, sent an invitation to national and international construction companies and supervisors interested in participating in the process.

Construction of stretch II of the "Diego de Holguín" boulevard will be granted to a different company, through a bidding process.

Gerson Martínez, Public Works Ministry, informed that the basis for the bids are almost ready and they expect to invite bids in August.

"He also said that $13 million have been requested to the Central American Economic Integration Bank (BCIE).
