"The majority of foreign sales are directed to the Central American market, and the rest goes to the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, United States, Mexico and some South American countries", reported Prensalibre.com .
The Guatemalan plastics industry exported 110,485 metric tons in 2011, while in 2010 only 88,906 metric tons were sold abroad.

According to the Plastics Commission of the Guatemalan Exporters Association, trade promotion, training and education were the key initiatives that enabled the national plastics industry to increase exports from 88,906 MT to 110,485 MT in a year.
In 2015 the countries of the region exported $1000 million worth of plastic and plastic products, led by Costa Rica and El Salvador, with $354 million and $337 million respectively.
MarketDataon Plastics and Plastic Products in Central America,compiled by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData.com, shows that in 2015 the countries of the region exported 480 thousand tons ofplastics and articles made of plastic, with a total value of $1056 million.
Between January and May, recycled plastic exports generated revenues of $2.2 million.
Jalil de Leon, executive director of the union of plastics companies attached to the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala (CIG), said that the domestic industry is also taking advantage of this market, a sector which reported growth of 12% in terms of the volume of what is recycled and transformed.
