Payless ShoeSource Steady in Costa Rica

Since it began operations in 2000, the company has opened 25 stores and plans to expand in the region.

Carlos Ayala, director of international marketing for the Payless Chain, spoke to El Financiero of Costa Rica, on the status of the brand in the country and its business model.

Under the slogan "democratizing fashion," the company acquired new operations and brands in the U.S., signed an alliance with the Costa Rican Gozaca Company (producer of commercial labels) and hired a sock manufacturer in Colombia with the aim of providing variety.

The company also has a store in Nicaragua, and "... is currently holding talks with Central American entrepreneurs interested in opening stores. In the country [Costa Rica], they are interested in being present in Limon, Guanacaste and San Ramon."
