The alliance will encourage trade, facilitate information exchange and promote the use of all water routes between Asia and the east coast of the United States via the Panama Canal.

"This agreement reaffirms the importance of all water routes through the Panama Canal," said Alberto Alemán Zubieta, administrator of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP).

Alemán Zubieta pointed out that is important to provide optimal service to customers amid the current global economic situation. The agreement with Maryland will enable greater cooperation for the benefit of trade between Latin America, the United States and Asia.

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has renewed its alliance with the Port of Charleston, South Carolina for another three years.

The two authorities will work together on marketing, exchanging information, market studies, expansion plans, training and technology, says the ACP.
