Panama´s Retail Industry Grows

The 9% growth in retail of the first half of 2010 drives expansion of big chains.

Among expansion plans, Doit Center will open this month its 14th branch.

Panafoto plans to open two stores this year at Vía Centenario Mall and next to David, Chiriqui.

Rafael Berrocal, in his article for Prensa.com, reports "also Cochez and Company, the construction materials and household items store chain, plans to open soon its branch number 14th in Chitre, Herrera."

Chain Store Invests $ 8 Million in Guatemala

As part of its expansion plan, Cemaco will open three new stores in 2011.

On March 18 it will open a new store at the Mall Flores del Lago.

Maria Fernanda Jaramillo, executive vice president of the company, told Prensa Libre that "an express format will be created by the middle of this year at the Avenida de las Américas, in area 13.... The expansion plan also includes opening a store on route to the Atlantic...".

GAP Comes to Panama

The GAP clothing chain will open its first store in Panama in late February.

This opening in the new phase of Albrook Mall, marks the start of expansion into Central America and the Caribbean.

The company plans to open two more stores this year in Panama, one in Metromall and one in Multiplaza.

New Branches of Café Barista

The Guatemalan chain has announced its expansion plans for 2012, with the opening of eight new stores in Guatemala and their foray into the Salvadoran market.

Walter de la Cruz, general manager of the chain said the projected investment is $1.4 million.

"By 2012 the firm's goal is to have 32 stores nationwide, and also activate international expansion, so the second half of the year could see the opening of its first store in El Salvador", published Siglo21.com.gt.

Carrion to Keep Investing in Costa Rica

The chain, which closed one of its branches in a major shopping center, has announced investments of $4 million and the opening of three stores.

Carrion store chain will invest about $4 million in 2012 on the improvement and expansion of the operation it has had in the country for the last 10 years, reported Nacion.com.
