Panamanian exporters lower growth forecast

The Panamanian Exporter Association (Apex)has reduced its forecast for export growth to 15%

At the start of the year, Apex forecast an increase of 25% in exports for the next four years, which "would make the current value of the export of goods of around 1 billion dollars to $2 billion," said the president of the group, Maximo Gallardo.

Panamanian Exports Will Drop 40%

Such is the 2009 forecast by the Exporting Companies Association of Panama, after analyzing June figures.

Up to the month of June, exports dropped 40%, and the most affected products were melon, banana and watermelon.

"The first half of the year is when we export the most. We won't recover from this steep drop in the remainder of the year", explained spokespersons of the union to Prensa.com.
