Through a 52 month contract the company will provide supplies and equipment for treatment of patients with renal failure.
By not endorsing the contract with company Promed, the Comptroller General has forced the Social Security Fund (SSF) to invite bids for the service.
Faced with criticism over multi million dollar direct purchases, the chief of Government justified these measures saying "a bidding tender does not guarantee transparency and honesty."
Contracts have been awarded in Panama of contracts for the supply, storage, transportation and delivery of materials and medical supplies for the Social Security Department.
In order to replenish stocks of medicines the Social Security Department will be able to sign contracts directly for amounts up to $500,000.
