Panamanian Social Security Buys Equipment for $98 Million

The Social Security Institute directly acquired medical supplies from Promed S.A.

Through a 52 month contract the company will provide supplies and equipment for treatment of patients with renal failure.

Guillermo Sáez-Llorens, director of the CSS, said the company also “... will build facilities for the CSS in order to provide treatment for kidney patients outside the premises of the institution, eliminating night shifts."

Panama Invites Bids for $98 Million in Medical Supplies

By not endorsing the contract with company Promed, the Comptroller General has forced the Social Security Fund (SSF) to invite bids for the service.

The Social Security Fund had made a direct purchase from Promed, for their dialysis department.

Guillermo Sáez-Llorens, director of the Social Security Fund confirmed the bid process replacing the contract signed with Promed.

Awards: Medical Supplies for $6.2 million

Contracts have been awarded in Panama of contracts for the supply, storage, transportation and delivery of materials and medical supplies for the Social Security Department.

Of the 59 products tendered only 54 were awarded to the companies Terapias Avanzadas S.A., Medline Solutions Panama Inc., Alta Tecnología Médica S.A., Alpha Mediq S.A., Kendall S.A., Hospimédica Panamá S.A., Compañía Astor S.A., 3M Panamá, U.S.

Panama: Purchases of Medicines Without the Use of Tenders

In order to replenish stocks of medicines the Social Security Department will be able to sign contracts directly for amounts up to $500,000.

With the backing of President the Social Security Department (CSS by its initials in Spanish) plans to start signing contracts directly in the next 30 days, after presenting a proposal to the Board of the institution next Tuesday.
