The president's statements come after a water supply crisis occurred in Panama City, as a result of heavy rains last December which affected the Alajuela Lake, the main water supply for the Chilibre water treatment plant.
The Varela administration is considering granting a concession for the production of drinking water in the Lake Bayano reserve and developing the Indian River watershed.
Specifications are being prepared for the launch of a tender in January 2016 for works to expand daily capacity of a water by 10 million gallons at the treatment plant in the district of Panama.
Preparations are being made for February of the specifications of the tender to build and expand water treatment plants in Santiago, Veraguas and in different areas of the provinces of Panama and Panama Oeste.
The government has approved for 2015 a tender for the construction of a sewage network and water treatment plant, roads and housing projects in various cities in the province.
