This is the first time that Panama has surpass one million visitors in the first nine months of the year. Carl-Fredrik Nordström, administrator in charge of the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP), attributed these results to the "constant and sustained promotion which has been carried out for two years."

Visitors to Panama Keep Increasing

In the first nine months of the year the number of tourists coming to the country increased by 6.9% compared to the same period in 2011.

Between January and September 530,574 tourists arrived, 98,907 more than in the same period in 2011.

"Foreign exchange earnings amounted to 1.6731 billion, an increase of 19.5%, or approximately an additional $273 million compared to the previous period.

Record tourist arrivals in Panama

There was a record of 1.5 million visitors making it one of the sectors with the most development during 2008.

According to pa-digital.com.pa, "projections at the end of 2008 indicate that the figure could read 1.6 million visitors, recording a growth of 14.3% compared to 2007.

Tourist arrivals in Panama grow 14.2%

The number of tourist arrivals from January to October 2008 grew to 1.23 million, 153 thousand more than for the same period last year.

Just in October alone, 25 thousand tourists more than last year entered the country; this is a growth of 25.4%. The best growth was for maritime tourist arrivals according to preliminary data, coinciding with the start of the new cruise ship season, which improved by 83.5% compared to last year.

Panama: Tourists spent $677.2 million during the first semester

During the first half of the year, tourists spent a combined total of $677,289,000 for an increase of 19.7% compared to the same period last year.

There was a two digit increase every month. The most significant was in the month of May when tourist spending was $104,516,000 or 27.3% more than same month last year.
