The company, through its Claro brand, announced investment in infrastructure, retail outlets and health care centers.

The coverage that the company has managed is more than 80% in cellular phones and 50% in mobile internet since coming into the mobile telephone market in March 2008, announced Oscar Borda, the Company's Central American Director.

Digicel and Claro sign contracts for Panama wireless concessions

Ireland-based Digicel and Claro, a unit of Mexico's América Móvil, signed contracts for the provision of wireless service in Panama, where their concessions oblige them to install four radio bases.

Manuel Troitiño, telecommunications director of the National Public Services Authority (ASEP), said both companies would have to apply to ASEP for frequencies or microwave links between the radio bases.

Digicel sets December date for Honduras launch

Ireland-based Digicel will launch operations of its GSM wireless service in Honduras this December, Digicel's owner, Dennis O'Brien announced.

O'Brien was speaking after a meeting with Honduran President Manuel Zelaya.
President Zelaya's press office confirmed that next week Digicel will next week meet its commitment to pay the US$80.1 million that was its winning bid in the auction of the nation's fourth cellular operating license.
