Panama, one the world's most connected country

The country is among the world's 30 best connected and is ranked 28 in the maritime services connectivity index.

This index, prepared by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), includes 163 countries and combines available information about five aspects: number of ships, TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) cargo capacity, the number of shipping agencies, the number of services and the size of the ships that offer services.

Within Latin America, Panama is number three, after Mexico and Brazil. According to the index, Panama has been ranked at 28 since 2006, but has dropped in comparison to 2004 when the country was ranked 22.
