Panama and Ecuador Seek Tax Agreement

A committee composed of Economy and Foreign Relationships ministers will seek tax and trade agreements.

This way, they will look to stop Panama's complaints against Ecuador before the World Trade Organization, which protested the application of discriminatory trade measures.

"Ecuador is one of the countries keeping Panama in their 'black-list', and since then has started a series of measures hampering free trade and other Panamanian services", reported Laprensa.com.

Tax Information Agreement Costa Rica - Ecuador

The aim of the Agreement is to exchange information between the two countries for the administration and enforcement of tax laws.

Costa Rica and Ecuador have signed an Agreement on the Exchange of Information in Tax Matters, with which the country moves forward in its fulfilment of the commitments made in 2009 with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Panama Takes Ecuador Conflict to WTO

The country began the process in response to measures applied by Ecuador to legal, finance and trade services.

This was confirmed by Alberto Vallarino, Economy and Finance minister, in a communication with Commerce and Industry minister Roberto Henríquez.

"A possible action against Ecuador in the World Trade Organization is among the measures included in the national strategy for promoting and protecting Panama's international services", reported newspaper Prensa.com.

Ecuadoran measures affect the Colon Free Zone

The measures taken by Ecuador to increase the tariffs on 600 imported products has paralized shipments from the Colon Free Zone (ZLC).

Prensa.com reports on its website: "Members of the board of directors of the Association of Users of the ZLC confirmed that they are proceeding to request the help of Panamanian authorities to resolve the conflict.

Ecuador interested in FTA with Guatemala

Negotiations for a FTA between Guatemala and Ecuador could begin in the first semester of 2009

The embassy indicated that they have met with members of the Government to study the possibility of signing a Free Trade Agreement between Guatemala and Ecuador.

Roberto Ponce, Ecuadoran ambassador, pointed out that he is in talks since the beginning of 2008 and that negotiations are scheduled to start in the first semester of 2009.
