Panama and Costa Rica eye joint effort in European tourism market

The ministries of tourism for Panama and Costa Rica are considering a joint effort to provide travel packages aimed at the European market.

The packages are still at the planning stage. The two governments are analyzing the feasibility of the project through market studies.
The next planning meeting will take place in Panama in August. The private sector from both countries will be represented at the meeting.

Costa Rica - Panama Electrical Interconnection in July

The last component of the electrical interconnection project between both countries would be ready for July 2010.

Panama has already completed its share of the project, which is located in an area called "Friendship Ring" ("Anillo de la Amistad"). Costa Rica must still complete two power lines.

Russian Tourism Operators Explore Nicaragua

Fifteen companies in total are visiting known major tourist attraction locations for their promotion.

The Minister of Tourism, Mario Salinas, said that it is a great opportunity to show the country as a new destination for the Russian market.

Elnuevodiario.com.ni reported the minister's statements: "Beginning right now, we are working on showing all the landscapes of Nicaragua and we are hoping that the first groups of tourists will come during this European summer, i.e. in mid-July and August."

Taca Betting on C.A. Tour Packages

"TACA Vacaciones" (TACA Holidays), is a new program looking to foster the vacation market through "all inclusive" packages.

"TACA Vacaciones" packages are designed by wholesale tour operators from the countries of the region, under an "all inclusive" model: air ticket, hotel, ground transportation and in some cases, food and tours.

The Golden Arches (McDonald's) increases investment in the region

The Golden Arches group, which manages the McDonald's franchise in Central America, announce that Costa Rica and Panama will receive an investment of more than $3 million in remodeling and new restaurants.

Loney Armijo, regional operations director of Golden Arches, said that they will be investing some $3.5 million in Panama in 2008 and 2009.
