Panamá among the top tourism destinations

Budget Travel, a website specialized in tourism, includes Panama amongst the top 10 tourism destinations to visit in 2009.

Laestrella.com published in its web site: "For the second time in a row, Panama leads the growth in this sector in Central and South America, achieving an increase of dividends of 20% in 2007 and 30% in 2008, according to Budget Travel.
Central America received over 1.5 million visitors last year, an increase of 14% in comparison with 2007, according to the Tourism Authority".

Costa Rica stresses increased trade

After Chile, Costa Rica is the country with the best conditions in Latin America for trade and business, according to a study from the World Economic Forum.

The report said in part that Costa Rica "is open to imports, with a relatively low level of tariff and non-tariff barriers, and its customs offices are efficient."

The economic crisis in the region last year reduced port activity in Latin America and the Caribbean, according to a recent ranking prepared by ECLAC.

Costa Rica (43 in the world) rank at the top in Central America, followed by Panama (53), El Salvador (56), Guatemala (58), Honduras (66), Nicaragua (77).

The Enabling Trade Index, featured in the report presented by the World Economic Forum, measures institutions, policies and services facilitating the free flow of goods over borders and to destination.
