Panama: Tourism Sustainability Standard

The standard establishes minimum criteria for tourism companies to include in their sustainability standards in order to raise competitiveness at the national level.

From a statement issued by the Tourism Authority of Panama:
 
The Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) announced the Panama Tourism Sustainability Standard on July 5, a standard which was developed jointly with the Ministry of Environment (MiAmbiente) and the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI), after extensive national consultations, adjustments and training in recent months, both with the private sector, NGOs, community groups and academics.
 
According to the sub administrator of Tourism, Jennifer Champsaur, the creation of this standard establishes the minimum criteria for sustainability standards for tourism companies to include in their operations and in this way increase competitiveness of tourism products nationwide.

The government of the Republic of Panama, has received funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to partially meet the costs of "Modernization of Environmental Management for Competitiveness."

$ 10 Million for Nicaraguan Tourism

The country will improve its tourism offerings in San Juan del Sur and Granada with the IDB loan.

The loan will finance the recovery and improvement of tourism resources in both areas, and will provide training and technical assistance to micro, small and medium enterprises to increase the quality of tourism services.
