Panama Metro Begins Construction

The project represents an investment of $ 1.500 million and its construction will be done by Consortium Linea 1, structured by Norberto Odebrecht and FCC.

The formal start of construction of the project was made by a sound which instructed the immediate operation of equipment located in the Albrook area.

The Panama Metro will have eleven stations, some on the surface and others underground, and will be a modern mass transit system which will offer users faster and safer travel, improving their quality of life. It will have 20 trains of 3 cars to be manufactured by French company Alstom.

Line Two of Panama Metro

The work to be tendered next year will be 6.2 miles longer than the first line, having a total length of 22 kilometers.

The project cost is still unknown, however, it has been revealed that the original proposal by the Secretariat of the Panama Metro has undergone some modifications.

Contract to Build Panamanian Metro Signed

The Panama Metro Department and Consorcio Línea 1 signed last Friday the contract for the construction of Metro Line 1.

The project will stretch 13.6 kilometers and will be built from Los Andes, San Miguelito district, to the Albrook bus terminal, so the president made a special request to Panamanians in order for them to have patience with the changes which will happen as a consequence of the Metro works.

Odebrecht and Impregilo Submit Bids for Panama Metro

Only two consortiums have presented offers for the design and construction of the first line of the Panama Metro.

The consortium led by Impregilo also includes Astaldi, Ghella and Ansaldo Breda Trains, while that led by Odebrecht also comprises Spanish owned FCC Construcción and Alstom Trains.

Initial Bidding Process for Panamanian Metro

The Metro Secretary is looking for the project's main adviser, and for that it is preparing a technical cooperation agreement with the IDB and the CAF.

Such agreement will outline a process for choosing a head adviser for the project, who will develop, in conjunction with the Metro Secretary, the bidding basis for the construction of the metro.
