Panama: Imports of Beverages Up 29%

In the first six months of 2014 imports of soft drinks totaled $48.7 million, which is $10.9 million more than in the same period in 2013.

In terms of quantity, this year 68,544 MT were imported, 27% more than the amount imported in same period in 2013.

Beverages coming from Central America totaled 45,600 MT, representing 67% of the total, while those from outside of Central America totaled 22,943 MT. Drinks coming from the isthmus had an average CIF cost in 2014 of $0.59 per kilogram, while the others cost $0.96 per kilogram in 2014, 64% more than those from Central America.

Soft drinks accounted for 33% of kilograms imported in 2014 while water made up 25% of the total, and other non-alcoholic beverages 53%. Comparing the first half of 2013 with 2014, the largest increase was seen in soft drinks, with an increase of 76%, followed by water with 26%, while the category of ​​other beverages increased by 13%.
