Panama: Foreign Investment Up 16%

In 2016 the country received $5,209 million in foreign direct investment, an increase of 16% compared to the previous year.

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance: 

A report from the Department of Economic and Social Analysis at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), reveals that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Panama in 2016 amounted to B / 5,209.3 million compared to the B / 4494.2 million received in 2015, in other words it increased by 15.9%, demonstrating its dynamism and investor confidence in the country's macroeconomic performance.
 
The document reflects that in terms of the increase in FDI, highlights include reinvested earnings, which is money reinvested locally (66.5% of total or B / 3462.6 million), followed by other investments (18.5% of total or B / .965.6 million) and shares and share capital (15.0% of total or B / 781.1 million).

Panama: FDI Up 18% in the First Quarter

During the first three months of the year, foreign direct investment flows in the country totaled $1.648 million, 18% more than in the same period of 2018.

The report of the Economic and Social Analysis Directorate of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), states that between the first quarter of 2018 and the same period of 2019, the amount of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) grew by $254 million.

In the first half of the year, foreign direct investment flows received by the country totaled $620 million, 5.8% more than in the same period in 2017.

The main source of financing of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) was reinvested earnings. By origin of investment, it was observed that most came from North America, with 37.6% of the total, followed by Europe with 20.3%.

During the past year, the country received $5.319 million in direct foreign investment flows, 2% more than was reported in the previous year.

The Comptroller General of the Republic of Panama reported that between 2016 and 2017 the direct foreign investment that reached the country grew by $94 million, rising from $5.226 million to $5.319 million.

In 2016 44% of foreign direct investment in the region was concentrated in Panama, and a fourth consecutive year of increases was recorded, with 16%, while Costa Rica received 27% and increased by only 1.1%.
