A Spanish company apparently with no experience in the port industry plans to invest nearly $8 billion.

Monday, February 10, 2014

The project refers to a major port for post Panamax and super post Panamax ships to be built on isla Largo Remo en Colón.

An article in Prensa.com reports that "The project is called Puerto Verde Panamá Atlántico, and its development will cost around $7.972 million. The promoter is Linden Partners, a Spanish company. Details of the work are reflected in an environmental impact assessment (EIA) category III submitted in late 2013 to the National environmental Authority (ANAM), in order to determine the viability of the structure in Colon."

Linden Partners, according to information on the Internet is an international investment holding company primarily engaged in the pharmaceutical sector.

On the internet no information could be found on a Spanish company dedicated to logistics, maritime and port sector, under the name Linden Partners, which calls into doubt the announcement of the whole project.

Post-Panamax Vessels and Ports in the Region

November 2012

It is not only the ports on the South and East Coast of the U S that have to make provisions for the expansion of the Panama Canal.

Ports in the Caribbean and Latin America will also have a before and after the expansion of the Canal.

Post-Panamax ships require more depth in the access channels to ports and their docks, and this means adjustments to infrastructure need to be made early enough in order to stay in the market as shipping destination, after the inauguration of the new Canal in 2014.
